Scientists design new solar cells to capture energy from rain
Scientists from Soochow University in China are working on a solar panel design for an efficient hybrid solar panel. The purpose of their invention is to capture energy from rain as well as traditional solar energy. They hypothesized that their graphene infused solar cells will split raindrops into positive and negative ions. With continued tests, the team hopes to get the solar panels on par with traditional solar panel efficiency. Nonetheless, their current output is fairly close to reaching this milestone. In the near future, solar panels could generate energy rain or shine. Read more [...]
Contemporary green innovation can still make us dream
Imagine building an airplane capable of flying night and day without fuel. Solely propelled by solar energy. This is the vision that led to the creation of the Solar Impulse programme. The aim of the project is to develop a symbol which will attractively promote a pioneering and innovative spirit. Particularly, in the field of energy saving and renewable energy. Read more [...]
Dark times ahead for Spanish solar power
Spain had one of the most ambitious strategies for solar power that saw it pushing ahead the rest of Europe in honing the ability to capture energy from the sun. However that plan has faultered as the Spanish government have cut the level of subsidies for all new and existing photovoltaic projects. Read more [...]
